I am excited to share that our good friend and Root to Rise community member, Lisi Owen, is running for Denver District Attorney.
Lisi is an experienced, recognized civil rights attorney who has practiced law for 13 years in her hometown of Denver, and yoga even longer. A recognized “Colorado Superlawyers Rising Star” since 2018, she has a strong background in holding billion dollar+ institutions accountable. This strong sense of accountability eventually led her to Norway after being selected as an alternate candidate for a Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant, where she completed immersive research on how we can create a modern, research-backed prosecutorial system here in Denver.
As Denver’s next District Attorney, Lisi’s priorities include creating and implementing equitable prosecution practices such as ending coercive plea bargaining and requiring complete investigations before charging cases. Her vision for Denver’s DA office also includes:
- Implementing inclusive and comprehensive victims’ services;
- Ensuring institutional accountability inside and outside the DA’s office by creating an institutional integrity unit and providing real data transparency; and
- Creating a healthy workplace within the office.
